Each resident in Internal Medicine at St Mary Medical Center may choose to apply to a Critical Care focused track at the end of their PGY-1 year. Residents must interview with the Critical Care Committee consisting of the supervising attendings listed above and be selected for acceptance to this program.

The critical care medicine track is a focused program within Internal Medicine. The curriculum includes a leadership/multidisciplinary conference, point of care ultrasound experience, simulation lab sessions, and more experience in the critical care unit. Residents will gain proficiency in the evaluation and management of critically ill and injured patients with medical, surgical, traumatic, and neurologic diseases.

Goals:

  • Sharpen critical thinking skill and clinical knowledge in ICU medicine.
  • Hone lifesaving procedural skills as well as gaining more hands-on experience in point of care bedside ultrasound (POCUS).
  • Participate in leadership meetings and collaborate with administration to achieve quality improvement goals.
