My time at St. Mary was a three-year moment of personal growth. Being the first class of the first-ever residency program of the hospital allowed me to mature spiritually, and I also learned to navigate forward with grit and perseverance. I believe my experience at St. Mary will become the basis of my career and personal life. Time here has allowed me to become a clinician with good clinical acumen. Residents were allowed to have considerable latitude in managing patients with close supervision.

Oncology seeks physicians with a strong understanding of internal medicine. I believe St. Mary provided me with such a foundation for a subspecialty practice. It was also fun to be near a historical city. Philadelphia’s food scene is diverse, and the city offers numerous opportunities to enjoy different aspects of cultural experience outside medicine.

I highly recommend this program on basis of excellent teaching you will receive, exposure to various pathology and an unforgettable ICU experience with Dr. Solomon.

I had an amazing experience and training at St. Mary. I was lucky to be in the first class because we worked very closely with the attendings and specialists from different fields. My attendings and colleagues made the three years of training go by so fast. It was a wonderful experience where we shared smiles and tears throughout our training as a big family. St. Mary residency is unique because it has a good balance between workload, didactics and firsthand experience of procedures and pathologies. I enjoyed having nice areas near the hospital to hike, walk or bike.

The dedication of our program director and faculty to teach and support the residents is one of the main strengths of the program. We had a constant close mentorship program with our assigned faculty to monitor our progress and review our goals. This helped me to stay on top of my goals and achieve them. The program also helped me excel my leadership skills by giving me the opportunity to be part of several committees and clubs where I shared my thoughts with other leaders/specialists and learned from them.

St. Mary felt like my second home. Training years were hard and tough, but I used to enjoy going to work to meet my colleagues/friends and attendings. St. Mary provided a nice culture and work environment that made my training years exceptional.

Without a doubt, my residency training has been the most memorable experience at St. Mary thanks to the dedicated faculty, consultants, nursing staff and my amazing coresidents who were truly my second family. I really miss the cohesiveness and camaraderie amongst my coresidents during the time we shared together. Residency is challenging in so many ways, but the faculty at St. Mary are truly dedicated to helping residents thrive.

I believe the strength of this training program lies in a well-rounded curriculum, commitment to do better with constant feedback from residents, approachability of attendings with equal emphasis on giving autonomy over patient care decisions. Ultimately the program offers ample opportunity to grow and pursue one’s desired career path be it fellowship, primary care or hospitalist. I believe after my training at St. Mary I feel confident in my ability to provide compassionate care with evidence-based medicine to my patients. Even though we are actively involved in patient care, we have set out time for case discussions, teaching rounds with attendings, board review sessions and regular lectures by residents and consultants.

Our program does an excellent job of creating a familial, supportive atmosphere and an excellent work–life balance. Due to the wide catchment area of our hospital network, you are routinely exposed to interesting, rare pathology in addition to typical medicine cases. From proximity to major cities such as Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, to amazing hiking trails, vineyards, Poconos mountains, Longwood Gardens, the location of the program has something to offer everyone.

My three years at St. Mary Medical Center were the most memorable years of my life so far. The program offered to make me a well-rounded internal medicine physician and it delivered so. Dr. Umang Patel and his team were fun to work with and I seldom felt overburdened with work. I was able to watch the growth of this program from a new program to a well-structured and developed program at the end of my three years.
One of the biggest strengths of the program is its critical care training. The critical care track provides opportunities to learn more critical care medicine in depth and learning POCUS and learning to perform additional procedures. The internal medicine residents have great support from nursing, pharmacy, and other ancillary staff. As an endocrinology fellow, I could never forget the great exposure—both inpatient and outpatient, I got in endocrinology during my residency training.

The program offers away electives and makes sure you get the exposure and experience you desire in your subspecialty of interest. The program also concentrates on providing adequate board review sessions and maintains excellent board passing rates. One of the safest and best communities in the country with plenty of natural beauty, a great hospital with friendly and knowledgeable medical and nursing staff, and a great internal medicine training program with university-level capabilities—what else do you want, to choose St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne as your next destination!
