A Welcome from the Residents

From the inaugural class, welcome to Nazareth Hospital! We are only a team of six but we are working hard to create a lasting culture that will last for years to come. So far, we have made incredible strides and are looking for more residents who are eager to take the reigns and push us further.

Having the opportunity to shape our own education and residency has been really rewarding. We have all naturally taken on addressing different aspects of the program that we felt needed reconstruction. From social media to wellness to scheduling, we have had a hand in most aspects of the program now.

While the program is new, our attendings are experienced residency educators and bring so much from their previous institutions, working and teaching at the forefront of evidence-based emergency medicine.

The culture in the department is as ‘Philly’ as it gets. Gritty, jovial, big personalities, ruthless sports fans, persistent and on top of their work. Our team works hard for patient care. The ancillary staff and nursing are incredibly efficient and will have things done and cooking before you even get a chance to ask them. Many of our nurses are even skilled in ultrasound line insertion when a resident isn’t available.

We manage every pathology that comes through our doors. While we have all the specialties at our disposal via large academic centers in proximity or in-house, we do all the emergent procedures: reductions, central access, intubations, chest tubes, trauma assessments, etc.

Half of us live in Center City or surrounding neighborhoods. Rent is manageable and getting to work takes about 15 minutes. Having random weekdays to casually explore the city has been amazing! A couple of us chose to live closer to work for the first year. In Northeast Philadelphia, the rent is very reasonable and the neighborhood is family oriented, diverse and quiet. Getting into Philadelphia proper is a quick drive down I-95. It takes 15-20 minutes to get to most places in the city.
