Emergency Medicine Residency

emergency doctors

Nazareth Hospital is on its second year of sponsoring a 3-year ACGME accredited program in Emergency Medicine based out of Northeast Philadelphia. We are currently approved for six training positions per year.

Our goal is to train highly competent emergency physicians who can work in a variety of clinical settings and feel confident to practice any department, whether community focused or academic centered.

Nazareth Hospital is a community teaching hospital with 205 acute beds and 28 skilled beds that accommodate over 8,000 admissions yearly. We are a nationally certified stroke center and emergency cardiac catheterization center. Currently, we have residency programs in Internal Medicine and Podiatry and Emergency Medicine, with new residency programs in the works.

The Emergency Department serves over 51,000 patients each year. We have 34 private patient rooms with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with 6 that are negative pressure capable. We serve a diverse population of all ages with varied economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Acuity comes with the territory as we care for many of Philadelphia’s underserved.

The program is a three-year training program (post-graduate year 1, 2, 3) which accepts six residents each year for a total of 18 residents. Nazareth Hospital will be the primary emergency medicine rotation site with additional rotations at St. Christopher’s for Pediatrics, University of Pennsylvania for Trauma and St. Mary’s for OB
