What can patients expect after surgery?
- Pain management routines vary from patient to patient and will be further discussed with your surgeon.
- Diet/activity
- Most patients return to their regular diet routine immediately following surgery.
- Rest and ice the treated area for three to five days to help minimize pain.
- Resume all normal activity within one to two weeks after surgery.
- Avoid strenuous activity or lifting for about six to eight weeks.
- Most patients will return to work or school within three to seven days.
- Physical therapy programs will begin 12 weeks after hernia repair.
