What to Expect During Your Stay
Typically, patients are admitted to rehabilitation following a significant illness or injury resulting in ongoing medical issues coupled with a decline in functional ability. Many patients are concerned about their ability to care for themselves and perform activities of daily living or ADLs. ADLs are things we do each day such as bathing, dressing, eating, and walking. Your therapy plan will focus on improving your ability to perform your ADLs. A stay at an acute rehabilitation hospital offers the highest level of rehabilitative service.
Patients are expected to participate in each scheduled therapy session in order to maximize functional recovery. Therapy sessions begin in the morning and run throughout the day. Breaks will be built into your day so you have time to rest, eat, and regroup for the next session.
Your therapy schedule will be designed based upon your individual needs and goals. Evenings are reserved for dinner, rest and visitation. In the evenings, your nurse will encourage you to utilize the skills learned in therapy so that you gain the full benefit of your time with us.
Your rehabilitation is a joint effort between you and your treatment team. Our, nurses, therapist, physicians and other clinical and non-clinical staff are here to encourage and help you. Your individualized rehabilitation requires planning, goal setting, participation and dedication. Together we will help you to set and achieve your goals for your recovery.
Dining at St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital
At St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital, we believe in socialization as a powerful tool to aid your recovery. We believe the act of dining in a social setting is an important aspect of your rehabilitation program.
All patients of St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital are expected to join us in one of our beautifully-appointed dining rooms for each meal.
Patients admitted to our Stroke and Neuro Recovery Units may be served in the dining room on the unit or another location based upon your individual needs. This allows us to maintain a low-stimulation environment crucial for recovery from a stroke or neurological illness or injury.
Visiting hours 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
We strongly encourage our patient’s loved ones and caregiver to be present during therapy times so they may benefit from education and training.
St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital is equipped with two low-stimulation units, the Neuro Recovery Unit and the Stroke Unit. These units are designed to enhance the recovery of our neurological patients. We respectfully request visitation on these units to be limited to two visitors at a time and children be well-supervised.
