Childbirth and Breastfeeding Classes
Saint Francis Hospital’s childbirth and breastfeeding classes are designed to educate expectant mothers and their support team on what to expect during labor and the post-delivery period as well as to provide advice on breastfeeding and newborn care. They are open to both new and experienced moms and include:
Labor & Delivery – Childbirth Readiness Class
Participants are educated on:
- Birth and delivery options
- The role of the doctors and nurses in the care given to mom and baby
- Breathing and relaxation techniques
- Medical procedures during labor
- Available pain management options
- Recovery after delivery
Includes a walking tour of the Women’s Health Unit, labor rooms and nursery facilities.
Breastfeeding and Newborn Care Class
Expert healthcare professionals will teach:
- Safe newborn bathing, skin and nail care
- Tips on diaper changing, cord care, swaddling and much more
- Safe sleep practices and healthy breastfeeding schedules
- What to expect at all stages of breast feeding
- Strategies on getting started and maintaining successful feeding practices
- Hormonal changes during pregnancy that prepare your body for breastfeeding
- Different feeding options including pros and cons to each option
