Radiation Oncology at St. Mary

cancer patient

linear acceleratorSt. Mary Medical Center recently invested in the TrueBeam® radiotherapy system—an advanced linear accelerator that is fully integrated for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery.

Designed to deliver treatments with enhanced speed and accuracy, TrueBeam can be used to treat cancer anywhere in the body where radiation treatment is indicated—including brain, lung, breast, prostate, uterus/cervix, and head and neck.

This innovative new technology allows our expert radiation oncologists to provide:

  • Radiation therapy that targets cancer within a millimeter of accuracy
  • On-board imaging, or image-guided radiation therapy
  • Extremely fast delivery of radiation; in some cases, treatments may only last 2 – 3 minutes versus times as long as 10 – 15 minutes previously
  • Radiosurgery, i.e., single dose radiation for brain tumors; there is no cutting or anesthesia and everything is completed on an outpatient basis
  • Stereotactic body radiation therapy to treat primary tumors throughout the body
