Labral Tear
Our joints are marvelous works of art. They provide our limbs with a range of motion to allow us to walk, run, jump, throw and do all kinds of things with our bodies. So, when one is injured, it will let us know.
The labrum is an extra band of cartilage that lines the hip socket, which helps provide stability to the hip joint and keep it in place. When this piece of cartilage tears, you may feel pain in the hip area after periods of standing or walking and locking, clicking, or catching of your hip. Labral tears can be caused by trauma, such as a car accident, or from repetitive movement, like from playing sports.
Treatment for labral tears can range from physical therapy and anti-inflammatory pain medications to surgical procedures such as hip arthroscopy, which is provided by St. Mary Orthopaedics.
