Hip Arthroscopy

hip pain

hip arthroscopyHip arthroscopy is available at St. Mary Medical Center and Saint Francis Hospital. In arthroscopic procedures, surgeons can view the joints without making a large incision. The surgeon uses a fiber optic scope (arthroscope), along with tiny instruments to view and repair the joint.

During hip arthroscopy, the surgeon will pull the hip away from the socket far enough to insert the instruments. Because this is a minimally-invasive procedure, the surgeon only needs to make several small incisions. This procedure is used for many different conditions that can cause pain and soreness in your hips such as labral tears, loose bodies, hip impingement, snapping hip, articular cartilage injuries, and synovitis.

Because arthroscopic treatment requires a smaller incision than traditional surgery, the time it takes for recovery back to pre-injury levels is much less.
