Patient ARU Admissions
Patients referred for admission to the inpatient rehabilitation program must have functional limitations that require the inpatient services of at least two therapies three hours a day for five or more days per week. Additional admission criteria may include the need for 24-hour rehabilitation nursing, management by specialized rehab physicians and have a stable discharge disposition. Patients must be medically stable and able to participate in their program.
Each individualized program is designed to address limitations in self-care skills, mobility, safety, pain, strength, bowel and bladder function, cognition, communication, swallowing and community integration. Therapy services are provided several hours a day, at least six days a week.

The patient and family are an integral part of the team. Team members may include physiatry, other consulting physicians, rehabilitation nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, care coordinator, social services, spiritual care, psychiatric, prosthetic and orthotic services.
All other hospital services such as diagnostic imaging, lab, and pharmacy are available on site with the same level of service and response time for orders and results as in the acute hospital. The interdisciplinary teams work with the patient, families and caregivers to meet the cultural needs of all patients and to ensure their input in establishing a discharge plan. The majority of the patients discharged from the unit return home or to other community settings.
Patients may be referred from hospitals, other rehab setting, skilled nursing facilities or other outpatient referral sources. The program maintains contracts with most insurance plans. Depending on the type of insurance, pre-authorization may be required before admission.
