Cardiology Fellowship
A Message from the Program Director, Sunil Dhar MD, FACC, FSCAI
On behalf of our faculty, I welcome you to the Cardiovascular Disease Training Program at Nazareth Hospital.
The Cardiovascular Fellowship at Nazareth Hospital is an intensive, community-based fellowship emphasizing general clinical, invasive, and noninvasive cardiology. This three-year program uses a highly integrative approach to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disorders. Bedside teaching, as well as performance, interpretation, and application of all diagnostic modalities, are incorporated into a holistic approach to patient care. There are ample opportunities for elective rotations, both on and off-campus. Routine and frequent academic sessions follow the American College of Cardiology self-assessment program series. There is active teaching at all levels of training.
The cardiology training program at Nazareth Hospital focuses on training leaders in cardiology committed to their career and prepared to excel in the art and science of cardiovascular medicine. The training not only provides all the fundamental skills necessary to enable the physician to become an exemplary clinician and teacher, but it should also instill the utmost respect for the patient, stressing the critical importance of a compassionate and caring doctor-patient relationship.
The training program’s emphasis is on the development of particular skills that will foster a life-long enthusiasm for clinical research that will lead to improved understanding of disease processes, and ultimately, toward advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease.
Areas of training include:
- State-of-the-art cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory
- Coronary / intensive care unit
- Telemetry and intermediate care unit
- Heart station non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic unit
- Nuclear imaging laboratory
- Outpatient cardiology offices
The ACGME-approved Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Nazareth Hospital accepts two fellows per year. The department of medicine sponsors two residency programs (internal medicine and transitional year).
Graduates from cardiovascular disease fellowship program will satisfy all requirements to be eligible to sit for the cardiology board examination upon completion of the fellowship.
