Ultrasound and X-Rays

Ultrasound

While primarily known for its use in maternity, ultrasounds are also a valuable diagnostic tool. Rather than using radiation, ultrasounds release high frequency sound waves to create an image of the body’s internal structures. This allows our radiologists to check for cysts, masses, or other abnormalities in the body.

Ultrasounds can also be used to check the heart and vascular system. By scanning the arterial system with an ultrasound, radiologists can check for blockages, blog clots, and arterial plaque to evaluate a patient’s risk for heart disease. Vascular ultrasounds are often used to diagnose abdominal aorta aneurysms, an abnormality that enlarges and weakens the vein.

X-Rays

General X-rays of all areas of the body can be performed on an elective or emergency basis. These include:

• X-rays of the head and neck includes the facial bones, nasal bones, orbits, sinuses and soft tissues of the neck.
• X-rays of the joints and extremities, cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine as well as contrast myelography of the spine.
• X-rays of the chest, ribs, abdomen and pelvis.
