Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic physician recognized for excellence in clinical teaching by Drexel University
May 22, 2023Newtown Square, Pa. – (May 23, 2023) – Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is pleased to announce that Gregory Casey, DO, an emergency medicine physician at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital and assistant professor of emergency medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, has been presented with the Dean's Special Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching from Drexel University College of Medicine. The award was presented to Casey on May 12, following Drexel University College of Medicine’s 2023 commencement ceremony.
“This is a tremendously proud achievement for Dr. Casey, and a testament to Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic’s commitment to serving as a transforming presence within our communities, in addition to providing our patients with the highest level of medical care possible,” said Sharon Carney, senior vice president and chief clinical officer for Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic.
The Dean's Special Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching awarded by Drexel University College of Medicine recognizes not only excellence in clinical teaching, but outstanding commitment and contribution to Drexel University College of Medicine medical students. The senior students and administration of Drexel University select the awardee by both a ballot and input from the Dean's office, which includes an administrative review of evaluations of rotations.
“Students are quite discerning about the individuals who are responsible for their education, making the Dean's Special Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching a particularly distinguished honor,” said Charles B. Cairns, MD, the Walter H. and Leonore Annenberg Dean of the College of Medicine and senior vice president for medical affairs at Drexel University. “We appreciate Dr. Casey’s dedication and commitment to the education of Drexel University College of Medicine students.”
The Dean’s Special Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching began in 1993. It was developed to recognize teaching excellence that students received at the clinical affiliates of Hahnemann University School of Medicine. Since that time many changes have occurred, including the merger of Hahnemann University School of Medicine and the Medical College of Pennsylvania now known as Drexel University College of Medicine.
