Osteopathic Education

medical residents

Welcome to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital's Osteopathic Education Program, where tradition meets innovation in the nurturing environment of medical education. For over four decades, Mercy Fitzgerald has been a cornerstone in training osteopathic residents, providing a rich tapestry of educational opportunities and a supportive atmosphere for aspiring physicians.

At Mercy Fitzgerald, we pride ourselves on fostering a friendly and inclusive environment that promotes collaboration and growth. Our experienced faculty members are dedicated to guiding residents through every step of their training journey, ensuring that they receive comprehensive instruction and hands-on experience, in addition to the incorporation of Osteopathic Principles and Practice as well as Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy for the care of our patients.

One of the hallmarks of our program is our commitment to scholarly activities. In both clinical and educational settings, residents are encouraged to engage in research, presentations, and publications, enriching their understanding of osteopathic principles and practices and its application in all facets of medical care including but not limited to Intensive Care Unit and In-patient medicine. Through these scholarly endeavors, residents contribute to advancements in the field while honing their critical thinking and analytical skills.

Our curriculum is designed to be seamlessly integrated into your day-to-day work as well as part of your education. We encourage the integration of OPP into intern and resident reports as well as in the care of your patients. Along with monthly protected time for the Osteopathic Conference, our residents are encouraged to provide OMT to their patients as they see fit.

Our mission statement says it all: To provide our patients the benefits associated with the four tenants of osteopathy as outlined by AT Still. To utilize OMM/OPP to provide good patient care by allowing the body to heal while encouraging and teaching our patients a lifestyle that promotes mental and corporeal health to maintain quality of life as sought for by the patient. To provide osteopathic residents the tools, skills, and knowledge to practice osteopathic medicine to the benefit of their patients and community in a seamless and integrated manner.
