Knee Pain and Treatment
The knee joint is made up of the thigh bone (femur) that connects with the lower leg bone (tibia) to form a hinge joint that bends and straightens. The ends of the bone are covered with cartilage that provides a thick cushioning between the bone surfaces. Also, inside the joint helping to connect the bones is the meniscus cartilage that helps stabilize the joint. There are also major ligaments inside and around the knee joint with external muscles and tendons stabilizing it and helping it to move normally.
Injury, disease or arthritis can disturb the normal functioning of the knee joint causing knee pain, muscle, weakness and limited movement affecting walking and other activities.
