Darby, Pa. — (November 22, 2021) — Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic (THMA), is pleased to welcome James J. Cosgrove, DO, a seasoned OB/GYN who specializes in minimally invasive robotic surgery, to lead Mercy Women First, a newly formed women’s health center.

Dr. Cosgrove comes to Mercy Fitzgerald from Saint Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Del., also a member of THMA, where he served for 29 years, including 23 years as chair of the OB/GYN Department. At Sant Francis, Dr. Cosgrove performed thousands of gynecological surgeries and oversaw the formation of a successful multi-specialty women’s health program.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Cosgrove has joined us here at Mercy Fitzgerald,” said Chris Cullom, president of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. “His unique background in building a holistic, multi-specialty program for women’s healthcare services is a huge addition to our hospital and will meet a major area of need in our community.”

Dr. Cosgrove received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. He served as a physician in the United States Navy for more than 10 years and participated in Desert Storm.

Mercy Women First is now offering routine gynecological care, robotic surgery and consultations for patients with gynecological problems. The practice is part of a comprehensive new women’s health center that will include plastic and reconstructive surgery and breast surgery services.
