Mercy Fitzgerald recently earned a three-year accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for its ultrasound program. The ACR gold seal of accreditation recognizes hospitals with the highest levels of image quality and patient safety.

“We are very pleased with our hard-working ultrasound team to earn this prestigious distinction,” said Oleg M. Teytelboym, MD, chair of the department of radiology. “Their constant focus on ensuring advanced, quality care helps us improve the lives of our patients and the community every day.”

Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help providers diagnose illness, injury or other medical problems.

The ACR awards gold seals of accreditation to facilities that adhere to industry best practices and standards. To earn the accreditation, hospitals must follow a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and expert medical physicists. The accreditation assesses image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
