Using new technology to improve quality of life for patients
Darby, Pa. (August 23, 2018): Mercy Fitzgerald was among the first hospitals in Philadelphia to successfully implant two recently FDA-approved stents designed for patients whose blood vessels are either too large or too small for traditional stents. John Finley, MD, interventional cardiologist at Mercy Fitzgerald, is one of only a few physicians in the region to successfully implant these devices.
“Our team of cardiologists remains committed to providing accessible, compassionate care tailored to meet the needs of our community,” said Dr. Finley. “As stent technologies continue to evolve, so does the care our team provides. These new stents help us access difficult-to-reach blood vessels, while ensuring that each stent is in the best position to reduce pain and recovery time and maximize safety. The leading-edge therapies and state-of-the-art equipment offered by Mercy Cardiology and its catheterization lab are right there with anyone else in Philadelphia.”
The new stents—named Abbott XIENCE Sierra and Medtronic Resolute Onyx 2.0-millimeter—each are specially-designed to expand treatment options for blockages in blood vessels. These devices are designed to provide patients with better outcomes and more personalized care than was previously available. The use of these new stents exemplifies Mercy Fitzgerald’s continued commitment to excellence in cardiovascular care.
In 2017, Mercy Fitzgerald was the first hospital in Pennsylvania to treat a patient with the then newly approved Medtronic Resolute Onyx DES. Voted Best Hospital in Delaware County in 2015 and 2016, Mercy Fitzgerald is consistently recognized for clinical excellence, and its team of skilled cardiologists and state-of-the-art cardiovascular catheterization lab offer some of the region’s most advanced stent-related treatments.
