Osteopathic Recognition at Nazareth

Letter from the Director of Osteopathic Education

Charmaine ChanThank you for your interest in Osteopathic Recognition! Nazareth Hospital is very proud of the fact that we obtained Osteopathic Recognition for both our Internal Medicine Residency and Transitional Year Residencies. We are committed to educating our osteopathic and any allopathic medical residents who would like to augment their training in Osteopathic Principles and Practices. All Doctors of Osteopathy who graduate from their College of Osteopathic Medicine will automatically be enrolled in the Osteopathic Recognition program once you join our Internal Medicine or Transitional Year Residencies.

We have set up a curriculum that encourages residents to use Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) in the hospital, as well as in the outpatient setting. Osteopathic inpatient rounds occur once a month. We have an OMT outpatient clinic that specializes on OMT treatments for referred patients. Otherwise, residents are encouraged to treat patients in their respective inpatient rotations and outpatient clinics. We also conduct a quarterly Osteopathic Case Conference with St. Mary Medical Center, during which residents and students can learn treatments for various commonly seen conditions from fellow residents, osteopathic faculty or other OMM specialists, as well as learn to evaluate Osteopathic journal articles.

Our goal is to produce Osteopathic physicians who utilize Osteopathic principles and practices for healing of the whole person.

We look forward to having you join us in the program!

Sincerely,

Charmaine Chan, DO
