General Surgery Residency
Letter from the Program Director: Joseph L. Grisafi, MD
Thank you for your interest in the general surgical residency at Nazareth Hospital. The program was established to provide an outstanding learning environment and training experiences for the surgeons of tomorrow. Our surgical service lines have grown and encompass different specialties and subspecialties which are represented within the Department of Surgery.
Our faculty is committed to providing a robust clinical experience with a breadth of operative cases to prepare trainees for independent practice. Operative suites with cutting edge technology are utilized for advanced procedures with a focus on minimally invasive robotic surgery and vascular surgery. A diverse experience is provided to residents as they rotate through services with different faculty members and varied teaching styles.
The program is based at Nazareth Hospital and broad-based clinical training is emphasized. Residents will also rotate locally for select experiences that include: pediatric surgery at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children; trauma surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center; abdominal organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; and endocrine surgery at St. Mary Medical Center. Trainees will be well suited to independently treat straight-forward and complex surgical pathologies upon graduation.
Our commitment to excellence in surgical education is critical for ensuring access to quality surgical care in the future.
