The shoulder joint is comprised of a ball and socket between the humerus and scapula bones. The shoulder connects the upper limb to the trunk and is also one of the most mobile joints in the body. Proper functioning of the shoulder is essential to proper use of the upper limb for activities involving the elbow, wrist and hand.

Due to the mobility of the shoulder joint it can be prone to multiple injuries and overuse of the muscles tendons and ligaments including the rotator cuff. Problems with the shoulder can disrupt daily activities at home, at work and interfere with quality of life.
