Nutrition Counseling

Dietitian with foods

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic registered dietitians provide outpatient nutrition counseling using a personal lifestyle approach.

Our outpatient medical nutrition therapy program is designed for people living with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, weight management, GI disorders and more.

Our goal is to help you make long-term changes in your eating habits and lifestyle, providing encouraging support and advice along the way. It’s not just about dieting. It is about making behavioral and lifestyle changes to manage and prevent nutrition-related medical conditions.

Guidance will include setting realistic and achievable nutrition goals, creating customized meal plans, and developing lifelong strategies for healthy eating. Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) helps individuals improve one’s overall health and quality of life.

How to prepare?

fruit and stethoscopePlease come prepared with any nutrition questions you may have. Be ready to discuss your normal eating patterns, your health goals, medical history, current medication(s) and supplement(s) you are taking. If you have been journaling your intake and dietary patterns, please bring that as well.

Insurance and referrals

Referrals from your physician are required for all outpatient Nutrition Counseling. Insurance coverage for MNT varies depending on the type of insurance and benefit package. Before scheduling a nutrition counseling consultation, please check with your insurance company to confirm the extent of your coverage. Some participants may be required to cover the cost of MNT themselves. You are responsible for all charges not covered by your insurance.

Medicare Part B beneficiaries

Our outpatient dietitians are registered Medicare providers. Medicare Part B beneficiaries with a diagnosis of diabetes or non-dialysis kidney disease are eligible for MNT. A referral from your primary care physician with an approved diagnosis is required for participation in MNT.

Self-pay visits are available for patients who do not have coverage for desired services.
