Darby, PA (March 20, 2019): Mercy Fitzgerald has been awarded a three-year accreditation in mammography by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Mammography is specialized medical imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to see inside the breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, aids in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Staff qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures quality assurance programs, and quality of images are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

“The mammography team at Mercy Fitzgerald is to be congratulated for achieving this accreditation,” said Jeffry I. Komins, MD, Interim Chief Medical Officer for Mercy Fitzgerald and Mercy Philadelphia. “It demonstrates their commitment to quality and to exceptional care for our patients.”
