Woman in bedAs COVID cases increase across the country and flu season approaches, it’s important to take steps to protect ourselves and those around us. To optimize your protection against illnesses like the flu, COVID-19 and RSV, follow these recommendations:

  1. Stay current with vaccinations: Getting vaccinated is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself during this season.

    • Flu vaccine: The fall influenza vaccine is generally available from October to March. Vaccination for the flu is a simple and effective method to lower the risk of getting seriously ill with influenza.
    • COVID-19 boosters: Fall COVID boosters will soon be available. Ensure you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations, including booster shots as recommended.
    • RSV vaccine: A new RSV vaccine is available for pregnant women and individuals aged 60 and over. Consult your healthcare provider to see if you are a candidate for this vaccine.

  2. Stay home when ill: Avoid going to work if you feel sick to prevent spreading illness to others.

  3. Practice hand hygiene: Regular hand washing and sanitizing are essential to reduce respiratory virus transmission. Remember to wash or sanitize your hands frequently, especially before touching your face, eating, applying makeup or inserting contact lenses.

  4. Avoid crowded indoor conditions: In areas with high community rates of respiratory illness, consider avoiding crowded indoor settings whenever possible. When you must be in crowded spaces, wearing a mask can help decrease your risk of illness and protect those around you.

Together, we can significantly reduce the spread of respiratory viruses in our community. Let’s prioritize the health and safety of ourselves and those around us this season. Thank you for your commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment at Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic.
