The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued updated guidance on celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday, now that positive cases are seeing a resurgence across the U.S.
Additionally, many counties have once again implemented stricter guidelines on gatherings. Be sure to follow these local guidelines issued by your county or city.
The CDC recommends that the safest option is to celebrate Thanksgiving with only the people who live in your household.
The CDC recommends that the safest option is to celebrate Thanksgiving with only the people who live in your household. However, if you do decide to celebrate with other family and friends, they urge you to take extra precautions, like wearing masks and keeping your distance.
It is believed that the uptick in positive cases is being partly fueled by an increase in smaller family gatherings. With the holiday season approaching and more people wanting to visit family and friends, the anticipation is that we will see an even greater increase.
We understand that everyone is feeling mask-fatigue. And the thought of not being with family during these special occasions is difficult. But taking precautions can help ensure that family members stay healthy.
For those who do plan to spend Thanksgiving with people outside their household, the CDC advises that you wear a well-fitting mask, keep 6 feet of distance from people who do not live with you and wash your hands often.
If attending a gathering, the CDC recommends that you:
- bring your own plate, cups and utensils;
- store your mask safely while eating and drinking;
- avoid going in and out of the kitchen while food is being prepared;
- and use single-use options for condiments and food containers.
If the weather is suitable, the meal can take place outdoors or indoors with windows open.
Families should take into consideration the most at-risk individual in their group and plan accordingly. If you, your spouse or family member has a health condition that puts them at a greater risk, please play it safe and do not host an event or attend a family gathering over the holidays. If you are planning an event, talk with your family and ensure that everyone is practicing social distancing and masking leading up to and during the gathering.
Remember ...

- Keep hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) with you and use it when you are unable to wash your hands.
